These universal charts maintain an inherent balance between playability and overarching threat, so don't be afraid to add them to your 5e game.
Now for the bad stuff.

Others simply believe the randomness of the weapon's given dice range for damage is already enough, with a roll of a 1 being a light hit and a maximum roll being a critical hit. Separate columns for melee, ranged, and spell attacks. Or if you're critical fumble tables are not heavy handed and the consequences in them are trivial and meant to purely introduce flavor and perhaps humor into the game, then that could be tons of fun.
